The St. Mary’s University Center for International Programs presents International Education Week.

 

Nov. 13-17, 2023 

 

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. The St. Mary’s University Center for International Programs is proud to present events to celebrate this important week. 

 

Monday, Nov. 13 

 

International Education Week Kick-Off 

9:45 a.m. 

Center for Life Directions, Lobby 

Join us to kick off International Education Week 2023 at St. Mary’sThere will be short remarks and a prayer to begin this exciting week. 

 

International Tea and Coffee Hour 

10 to 11 a.m. 

Center for Life Directions, Lobby  

Stop by the Center for International Programs for internationally-inspired teas, coffees and desserts. 

 

International Education Week Lunch: Daily Feature 

Germany 

Diamondback Café 

Aramark will be having an internationally focused food station daily during lunch this week to share foods from various countries around the worldEach day, a new country and corresponding menu will be representedToday’s country is Germany. 

 

International Education Week Tabling 

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

University Center, Atrium 

Stop by our table to pick up a pin that represents a country you love and to learn more about the upcoming events for International Education Week. 

 

Study Abroad Information Session 

3:15 to 4 p.m.

Learn more about the various study abroad opportunities that St. Mary’s has to offerA general overview of programs, financial information, and the study abroad process will be provided. 

 

Tuesday, Nov. 14 

 

Going Global: Building Your Career Beyond Borders 

Noon to 1 p.m. 

Contreras Student Lounge 

In this presentation given by the Career and Professional Development Center, students will learn how to navigate building a career outside of the USThis event is open to all students and all majors.

Lecture and Discussion with Aaron Tyler, Ph.D. 

3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Please join the Center for International Programs for a lecture and discussion led by Aaron Tyler, Ph.D. Tyler will be presenting about intercultural communication across difficult lines of difference, focusing on the current war in Gaza, as well as recent field experience in Kenya and PakistanThere will be time for Q&A and discussion.

International Education Week Treasure Hunt

Join the Center for International Programs for an international-themed scavenger huntClues will be provided throughout the day on our Instagram (@stmu_cip)All students will receive a small prize, and the first three students/teams to complete the hunt will receive grand prizes. 

 

Blume Library Presents: International Resources for International Students 

11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. 

Contreras Student Lounge 

Come and discover what the library has to offer international students.  This presentation hosted by Blume Library will provide a basic overview of academic research, introduce students to our International Relations Liaison Librarian, and cover accessing library resources, including non-English language DVDs, materials, and digital resources (journals and databases) in Discover.

International Fair 

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Speak with some of our St. Mary’s international students about their home countries.  You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about where they are fromAdditionally, the Center for International Programs will share study-abroad opportunities available through St. Mary’s.

Join Student Health and Wellness Programs and the Center for International Programs for an afternoon of de-stressingStudents will be able to sit back, relax, and spend time painting (or coloring) flags from around the world while trying various sodas/juices from other countries.

Aramark will have an internationally focused food station daily during lunch this week to share foods from various countries around the world. Each day, a new country and corresponding menu will be representedToday’s country is Peru. 

 

Korean Cultural Event 

1 to 3 p.m. 

University Center, North Courtyard 

Join us in rounding out International Education Week with an exciting event learning about Korean cultureActivities will include a Taekwondo workshop, Hanbok dressing station, traditional Korean games & quizzes about Korea, and the opportunity to try Korean snacks and ramen.
