We know about Jesus’ mother and some of his female followers, but what about the other first-century women who joined in the work of spreading the gospel?
Allison Gray, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Theology will present a short lecture about Thecla, a fascinating woman who leaves behind family and security to follow Saint Paul and live as a Christian apostle. Thecla’s decision leads to hardship – even a fight with wild beasts in a Roman arena - but she and her story play an important role in developing Christian ideas of women’s power and devotion.
This event is part of National Women's History Month programming at St. Mary's University.
